I was recently asked by someone if they should be posting on social media 3x day. That is what they had heard.
My answer: I'd say it depends on the channel you are using. Certainly not on LinkedIn or Facebook. But Instagram, Pinterest, possibly. It also depends what you are posting, depending on your industry. Lots of questions here... A B2B audience won't handle this, a B2C might IF it is always different and of interest. Don't post just to post but instead try to understand the mindset and interests of who you are posting to. No fast answer, is my answer. 
There are many other factors like time of day, day of week, audience segment. They are all variable.
